sampler size: 17” x 16” • framed size: 20” x 19” • sold

A very pleasing sampler worked in a large scale, this was made by Eliza Carr in 1844 and features Adam and Eve under a heavily fruited apple tree. The serpent is more aggressive than most and other motifs, such as the two geometric stars, the birds on fruit baskets and the two little squirrels sharing a twig of acorns, add to the overall appeal.

The sampler was worked in silk on linen and is in excellent condition. It has been conservation mounted and is in a wood grain veneer frame.
