A small and finely stitched needlework picture, this embodies the Federal aesthetic that predominated in the new United States at the end of the 18th century. Sprigs of flowers and buds are caught in a chain-stitched bowknot and placed inside a subtle, undulating vine that is punctuated with two small red flowers carefully placed at the top and bottom. This is a delightful, understated piece, worked at the end of the 18th century; it remains in its fine, original frame. The original backboard remains with it.

Worked in silk on linen, this is in excellent condition and has been conservation mounted into its original molded and black painted frame.
