sampler size: 7¼” x 16¼” • framed size: 8¾" x 17¼” • sold

This was most likely a practice sampler, made in anticipation of a larger and more elaborate piece. Finely stitched with very tight needlework, the anonymous maker included four alphabets and a charming depiction of a house and fence scene. The quality of the work, fabric and palette date it to the early 19th century.

Worked in silk on linen, this is in excellent condition.  It has been conservation mounted and is in a narrow maple frame.
