sampler size: 9¼” x 7” • framed size: 11¼” x 9¼” • price: $2400

A delightful and endearing little sampler, the majority of it a solidly stitched panel with many little animals, birds, flowers and trees, this is signed, “Sary Sanderson ageed Ten Years June 4 1749.” Sary was a nickname used occasionally for Sarah and it’s likely that the maker was Sarah Sanderson who was born December 20, 1739 in Bishop Burton, Yorkshire to John and Elizabeth (Kelsey) Sanderson.

Worked in silk on linen, the sampler is in excellent condition. It has been conservation mounted and is in its original black painted frame.
