Miniature needleworks are wonderfully appealing for the skill it takes to display a fully developed picture within the confines of very few inches. This scene does just that: displayed on 2¼ inches by 3¼ inches of silk, our needleworker stitched an endearing countryside scene. Set against a painted evening sky with a crescent moon, cloud-swept and animated by a flock of blackbirds, a pastoral cluster of buildings with bell towers rests on rolling hills backed by a variety of tall trees. In the foreground, at the base of the variegated knoll a man walks his horse along the bank, while off to the side two people sit in a rowboat. This is, indeed, a lovely, peaceful display of country life on a very small scale.

Worked in silk and paint on silk, it remains in excellent condition and, quite notably, it remains in its fine, original pressed brass frame. The small stand may accompany the frame upon request.
