Thischarming, little mid-18th century sampler is signed "Susannah Robinson work this in the 11 year of her age 1751" and is a fine example of the excellent work accomplished by English samplermakers in the early period. Susannah was only 10 years old (in her 11th year) when she made this sampler, and the very tight stitching would be impressive for a needleworker of any age.

Alphabets, tiny crowns and assorted hearts decorate the sampler nicely. The large alphabets and crowns and other motifs just beneath it were worked in tiny eyelet stitches. The sampler was executed in a pleasing palette of blues and beige on tan.

Worked in silk on linen, it is in excellent condition and has been conservation mounted into a beveled walnut frame.
