Miss Trimble stitched a fine verse, one stanza from “The Universal Prayer” by Alexander Pope (1688-1744), at the top and an overstuffed fruit basket on either side. A lovely thorny vine of budding and blooming flowers creates the framework on three sides, connected by a simple stitched, pale blue line at the bottom and brought together with a beautiful pale blue bow at the top. This is a well-developed and composed sampler offering an appealing visual display.

Worked in silk on linen, the needlework is in excellent condition, but with minor stabilization to the linen ground near the top corners. It has been conservation mounted and is in its original mahogany frame.
