sampler size: 7” square • framed size: 8¾” square • sold

Ann Johnson worked this simple yet appealing sampler, which shows the influence of Quaker sampler lettering, when she was twelve years old in 1849. Accompanying classic alphabets, upper and lowercase, a numerical progression, a number for each year of her age, and Ann’s inscription, she stitched a most endearing dedication to her mother. Decorative borderlines complete Miss Johnson’s sampler.

Worked in silk on linen, this sampler remains in excellent condition. It has been conservation mounted and now framed in a black painted molding.
