A beautiful and very finely worked oval sampler, this was made by Ann Harris and is dated June 6th 1806. There are three notable characteristics to the sampler; the text was all accomplished in a finely stitched script that closely resembles calligraphy with all of its delightful flourishes, the verse which begins, “The lofty oak from a small acorn grows,” along with the lovely oak leaf and acorn border themed to the same subject, and the fact of the oval format which is challenging by its very nature. Any one of these features is desirable on its own and together they make this a highly appealing sampler.

Worked in silk on linen and in excellent condition, this has been conservation mounted and is in painted black frame.
