Starting out as a tile manufacturer in the 19th century, the Poole company developed outstanding glazing techniques and interesting forms. In the 1950s, after the wartime restrictions were lifted, and the British were once again allowed to manufacture decorative pottery, the company flourished, bringing back some forms developed in the 1930s and creating beautiful new ones, as well as striking, hand-painted designs.

One cucumber dish, is in the TN.B pattern, and this is light brown and blue with a squiggle line through it, and the other is in the RO.L pattern, which is blue and green with a leaf pattern. Both were designed by Ruth Pavely, 1954. Hand thrown form by Alfred Read & Guy Sydenham. They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing.
