Cut Paper Scenes, American, circa 1920
Price: $400 & $350, Sight sizes: 2¾” x 4¼” & 2¾” x 5” Framed sizes: 6½” x 8” & 6½” x 8½”
Much like the popular silhouette portraits of the early 19 th century, these scenes were finely snipped from black glossy paper, and are striking against the crisp white matte.

The first is a delicate work with two couples courting under a wide pergola. Trees flank the scene, and their spiny branches mirror the span. Two birds face each other, perched on the tops of the branches.

The second silhouette we are offering is more provincial in the work and theme. Not quite as delicate, the scene depicts a large man, or hunter, and smaller man facing a stylized bird sitting below spiky trees. A wide black border frames the cut work continuously on all four sides.
Both have been worked in the same glossy black paper, and are in excellent condition. They have been newly matted and are framed in period molded and gold painted frames.
